Prego - the trusted choice for all Ponsonby locals
Living just behind Ponsonby Road I am always walking past Prego's and I'm always impressed with how busy it is. Now I know why. The food and wine is reasonably priced, the service is great and the food is tasty. The only thing I wouldn't recommend is sitting in the doorway! Especially on a chilly night. But this was my fault so I'll let Prego off with this :-) I now understand why people come back time and time again. Well done Prego - keep up the great service.

Fantastic service, really good food
I went to Prego on a Saturday night and was apprehensive about getting a table as they don't take bookings. We rung up and were told we could just wait at the bar if there was no tables, and 6.30pm was a less busy time. We got there at half 6 and they were right.

We were promptly seated in a small table in the middle of the place next to other tables and a group of very loud girls. I thought it was a bit loud at first but then got used to the atmosphere. Our waitress was very friendly, asking about our days and proactive with orders.

All the food was delicious and the bf had the best fish he's ever tasted. To top it off, people who were sitting outside had to fit their table next to us cos it was raining - so the manager came over and offered dessert on the house.

The prices are reasonable for a good restaurant and everyone there was enjoying themselves. A nice place to look forward to visiting again.

Just had a fantastic lunch... Just had a fantastic lunch at Prego's, great food and great service. As always if you can't decide on what to have, choose the fish of the day it is consistently good!
