  Hidden gem

  Hidden down a small alleyway in the heart of downtown Auckland, is a wee gem of a bar. First impressions tell me that this bar doesn’t appear to have been set up on a high budget, but I quite dig it. The bar is small but comforting, thanks to a few wooden tables with mismatched chairs, which look like they’ve been pre-loved from the 1960s. The drinks menu is laid out in a very creative way, listed inside old diaries and recipe books - which sounds odd but works.

  The bar features an odd barn-style swing front door, which was really hard to manoeuvre when carrying drinks. We sat outside to make the most of being 'outdoors in the winter', which was very pleasing thanks to the large outdoor fireplace. The DJ had set up outside too, playing 'mellow yet trendy' beats. The atmosphere was good. The wine was good and I was warm. I’ll be paying this place a visit again.
