The Library Bar Auckland
Living room drinks
April 2011
There’s a bar in Auckland that makes you feel welcome in seconds, it soothes your temples, makes your worries disappear and allows you to relax in what feels like the comfort of your own living room. The Library Bar is every readers dream venue.
Stacked to the brim with second hand titles of all shapes, sizes and genres, guests can happily browse the shelves and grab something to read if the conversation dries up, if a literary argument needs settling (there are dictionaries and encyclopaedia’s in the bathroom), or even whilst waiting for friends to arrive (rocking up early suddenly seems appealing).
Much like Britomart’s Smith Bar, armchairs, chaise lounges and oil paintings adorn The Library Bar giving it a wonderfully dated and sophisticated feel.
If the décor alone doesn’t tempt you rest assured the wine list is exceptional, the literary named cocktails are delightful and the bar snacks are divine – I’m serious, I’ve never had salt and pepper squid so perfectly tender before, and the beer battered fires are just what you need coming in from a chilly evening. It’s just been announced that sandwiches will soon be on The Library Bar menu, and if the Hogwarts pork sandwich is anything to go by we’re in for a treat.
I’d thoroughly recommend The Library Bar over the coming winter months; there’s nowhere in Auckland you’ll feel so safe and cosy outside of your own home.
