Top Bars For Mingling

Get out and about

September 2010 - Last updated: 30/05/2011

Whether you're single and ready to mingle or on a night out with your Wingman, there are some great bars in Auckland which are perfect for mixing with the crowd and meeting new people. Here are a few of our favourites.

Sale Street is always a good bar to hit – especially if there’s a group of you. Take advantage of the outdoor back yard which is an ideal place to practise your ‘Lady Diana Eyes’. Inside it’s nice and roomy, with a large bar and stylish vibe. Just down the road is La Zeppa which is an amazing feel-good tapas restaurant with a lovely bar at the back and outdoor balcony, perfect for chatting.

In Ponsonby Road things are always buzzing at Chapel Bar, where the atmosphere is friendly, happy and chilled. A regular live DJ set also brings plenty of entertainment, and is a great way to invite a friendly dance-off with randoms!

The Longroom down the road from Chapel promises a solid evening of friendly, flirty fun. It’s the place to be seen so is always jam-packed with smiley faces. You might even make some new connections waiting in the queue to get in!

They call Ponsonby Social Club social for a reason! Another hot spot for mixing with the crowd, it gets pretty busy late Friday and Saturday evenings so be prepared for a tight squeeze. Other popular spots for getting out and about in Ponsonby include Sponge, Lola Bar, The Whiskey Bar, Grand Central and Cosh Bar.

There are a few stylish bars in the Britomart area which have popped up lately and have totally become the place to see and be seen in. Check out 1885, The Britomart Country Club and Tyler Street Garage Bar.

A stones throw from Britomat the Viaduct offers great options, perfect for a spot of mingling, including Degree, Soul Bar, O’Hagens, Pasha, Lenin Bar and The Green Room. They’re all nice and close to each other so it’s a great area for a bit of bar hopping or getting your groove on.

There are also a few cool brew pubs worth fraternising about including Neighbourhood in Kingsland, Nuffield Street Bar in Newmarket; with Brew Bar and The Northern Steamship Company hosting a quality time in Quay Street.
