Auckland City is a shopper's mecca, and although it covers a huge area, many of its key shopping precincts are well within a 20 minute drive of each other. Malls are ideal for chain stores and those shopping with children as almost everything you could possibly want can be found under one, brightly coloured roof, but other areas are great if you're in the market for something a bit different or that elusive, unique gift for a friend or loved one. Some of the most popular shopping precincts outlined below also have great cafes and restaurants nearby, so we recommend you take the time to make a day of it!
High Street/Chancery area
The most central shopping precinct in Auckland, the High Street and Chancery Lane area is home to some of the city's most stylish shops and features the flagship stores of great New Zealand designers like Karen Walker and Kate Sylvester as well as international brands like Peter Alexander, Jo Malone and Calvin Klein.
Newmarket
As well as the 277 mall and strip of shops along Broadway, Newmarket is home to the boutique shopping area known as Nuffield Street. Here you can browse for homewares in design shop Nest, Swedish stationary products in the gorgeous Kikki K., girlish cocktail frocks in Allannah Hill or jewellery in the popular Angela Daniel.
Ponsonby Road
The perfect spot to find that something a little bit different, Ponsonby Road is a great spot for gift shopping as it is home to numerous small homewares stores as well as quirky boutiques such as World, Sera Lilly and Miss Crabb.
Parnell Road
Quiet and gentrified, Parnell Road has a plethora of stores selling exotic and unique tableware and linens, as well as some of the city's best galleries and small gift shops.
