Single on Valentine's Day
Great bars for mingling
If you're single this Valentine's Day, chances are that you'll be sitting in one of two camps - having a whinge with those wanting to drown their sorrows, or amongst the crowd who are whooping it up to celebrate being free and easy. There are bars out there in Auckland that are perfect for both, and big enough to get lost in and who knows, maybe even find that special someone before midnight!
Sale Street is always a good option to hit if you're in a group, and you can guarantee that along with their smaller, older sister bar, Chapel, they'll be turning it on for those of you unattached with plenty of roses going around and a few free cocktails here and there.
Things will be starting early at Chapel, where their Sunday regulars The Sentimental Sound System will be hitting the decks from 3:00pm to spin what they call “hits of yesteryear and lots of those 'oh I know that one' kinda tracks”. Add some cold beers, hotdogs and prizes into the mix and you'll be having such a breezy afternoon that the thought of balloon hearts and chocolates would even enter your head.
The Longroom also promises a great afternoon in the sun, and plenty of potential suitors to line up by the time dinner hour rolls around, if you're in the market for a date.
And if a few quiet wines and commiseration are what the doctor ordered, you can't go past West Lynn's Gypsy Team Room for a sombre Pinot Noir and good conversation.
