Manuka Wood Fired Cucina
Devonport
At 49 Victoria Rd, Devonport - on the corner of Clarence Street - you'll find Manuka Restaurant, which is a standout place to eat on what has became a veritable café mile.
Hugely popular with the lunchtime crowds, you'll often find groups of tourists happily enjoying a glass of wine and one of their delicious wood fired pizzas, and by night the locals settle in to one of their many comfy tables and enjoy much of the same.
Manuka are known predominantly for their wood fired pizza menu, and the choice is mouth watering to say the least. Two of the most popular are the El Salvador, which is topped with marinated chicken, crispy bacon, sweet chilli and guacamole, and their classic Smoked Chicken, which is topped with chicken, brie, roasted cashews, spinach and cranberry sauce, and has to be tasted to be believed. They also have a takeaway pizza and pasta menu, if you're in the mood for a picnic down by the wharf.
If you're in the neighbourhood in the morning they do a tasty brunch as well, and always have a few freshly baked sweet things to tempt you if you're sugar levels are dropping. Their large tables often have a reserved sign on them but don't leave if you're four or more - they are there precisely with you in mind, and are only used to deter solo diners and couples from nabbing the most comfortable spots. If that's you then chances are, if you ask nicely you'll be sitting in one before you know it!
