LATE at the Museum: Waitangi 2010

Kicking of the brand new LATE season is the annual Waitangi LATE. This event takes its inspiration from Waitangi Day and looks at innovations behind the Treaty of Waitangi settlements. How far have we come and where do we go from here? The panel discussion, moderated by Finlay Macdonald, features Sir Douglas Graham and Dr Hone Kaa. Great music on the night from Whirimako Black and also The Mint Chicks.


First Thursdays St Kevin's Arcade

Auckland’s newest art fair, First Thursdays, is an evening event held in St Kevin’s Arcade which offers an opportunity for emerging and established artists, musicians and performers to showcase and sell their art. The 2010 season kicks off on Thursday 4 February with an impressive line-up of artists featuring exhibitors such as Amy Walker whose work is described as a cross between Picasso and pop art, Miriam Ramos, a Frida Kahlo-inspired crafter of jewellery and live hip hop-based band Numbers. Runs from 6-9pm.

One of the greatest rock and roll bands on the planet who have sold over 200 million records worldwide perform  their massive Black Ice World Tour. It will be the band’s first New Zealand tour since November 1996 and will - without any question - be the most spectacular rock show ever staged in this country.

Waiheke Wine & Food Festival

Isola Estate, Waiheke Island
The Annual Waiheke Wine & Food festival, under new management, will see a huge range of artisan wine and food producers take up spots under ‘market style’ canopies. The organisers, who look after the marketing and event needs of many of the island's businesses, are introducing celebrity cooking demonstrations to the festival and profiling an international mix of food and wine producers including South African rump steam kebabs, a new range of Waiheke sheep's milk cheese, Argentinian BBQ, french crepes, local beers, ginger beer and wines from some of Waiheke’s World class vineyards including Man o War Bay, Cable Bay, Top Knot Hill and other producers from further afield.


Big Marley Party

Come celebrate the late great Bob Marley's birthday with a night of live roots, rock, reggae and ska music at the Kings arms tavern. Headlining the night are legendary New Zealand reggae icons Unity Pacific who will be joined by Auckland Ska greats Roofdog, Badtown and Task One and the sweet Reggae Dub grooves of up and comers Yebiisu. Acoustic artists Paul Hooli, Nick Goodger and the Revolters will be playing sets outside next to the BBQ area inbetween bands sets inside.

The iconic Mission Bay Jazz and Blues Streetfest will celebrate its 10th anniversary with more than 20 bands entertaining over 30,000 fans with great music and a festival atmosphere. Over 170 New Zealand and international Jazz and Blues Bands will entertain spectators from 6.00pm – 11.00pm. The event is liquor free, however alcoholic refreshments will be available in the designated hospitality areas.
