A day at the Speedway
Got a need for speed? Fancy a full-throttle, action packed weekend in Auckland? Then you need to set the wheels in motion and get to the Speedway! For those of you who don’t know, Speedway consists of stockcars, sidecars and motorbikes (with no brakes) amongst other things, racing for four laps around a track. Sounds easy eh? If you think so, then that’s exactly why you need to see it in all it’s glory!
But don’t be fooled by the loud engines, high speeds and muddy track – a day at the speedway is for more than just the adrenaline junkies among us. It’s a real family day out. Bring the chilly bin, pack a picnic and settle down for a day in the sun.
The two main Speedway tracks in Auckland are at Waikaraka Park and Western Springs Speedway.
Waikaraka Park is situated on Nielson Street and usually have at least one event per month featuring various cars and motorbikes. For a family (2 adults and up to 5 children) admission is $40 for a Standard Meeting and $50 for a Premier Meeting. Single adult tickets are priced at $15 and $20 for the Standard and Premier Meetings respectively.
You’ll find Western Springs Speedway in, yep you guessed it, Western Springs! There can be up to 4 Speedway events per month held here and the amphitheatre set-up means that there are great views from wherever you base yourselves! Ticket prices range from $5 for children and $20 for adults.
