Shakespeare Hotel, Tavern & Brewery is located in the heart of the city, it opened in 1898 and is your old style corner pub. We provide two levels of accommodation, three bars and dining for both lunch and dinner. Shakespeare boasts the first micro brewery in New Zealand . Monday is pool night, Tuesday is Texas holdem and Wednesday is comedy quiz night. Our comedy quiz night has gained quite a reputation and is very popular so come along and see for yourself.

Shakespeare Tavern has excellent service, and a great selection of beer which is actually brewed onsite which adds a unique touch to this well established tavern. There are three levels, upstairs is available for function hire and has a balcony which is conveniant for smokers, plenty of space a couple of televisions and a kitchen. The middle (ground) floor has a bar, pokies area two televisions and a pool table is also quite spacious for a bar and is well ventilated. The basement floor has recently re-opened and has been recently renovated, looking rather classy, also with a proportionately big television (compared to the size of the room) for sports fans.

The tavern also has hotel rooms above the 1st level which I have not personally stayed in, perhaps call in to find out more information.
