You’ve probably had a Mai Tai or Old Fashioned before. Simple syrup is easy to make. However, it must be thoroughly cooled before adding it to cocktails. Simple syrup can be stored in an airtight container for up to one month to keep it fresh for cocktail parties, happy hour, and other occasions. Do you need help with how to use the syrup left over? We have 15 favorite non-alcoholic and alcoholic cocktails that use simple syrup.

Your meals should be based on high fiber starchy carbohydrates

Starchy carbohydrates should account for just over a third. These include bread, rice, and pasta, as well as cereals.

Select whole grains or higher-fiber varieties such as wholewheat pasta, brown rice, or potatoes with still-on skins.

These carbohydrates are rich in fiber and can make you feel fuller for extended periods.

Include at least one starchy vegetable with every main meal. Starchy foods may be fattening. However, gram for gram, the number of carbohydrates in starchy foods provides less than half the calories of fat.

When you cook or serve these foods, be mindful of the fats you use. This is what will increase the calories.

Get lots of fruits and vegetables

You should eat at most five different fruits and vegetables daily. You can eat them fresh, frozen, canned, or dried.

It’s easier than you think to get your 5 A Days. You can chop up a banana to go with your breakfast cereal or substitute your mid-morning snack with a piece of fresh fruit.

80g is the average serving size of fresh, canned, or frozen fruits and vegetables. A 30g portion of dried fruits (which should only be consumed at mealtimes) will suffice.

One portion is a 150ml glass of fruit juice, vegetable juice, or smoothie. However, you should limit how many of these drinks you consume per day because they can cause tooth damage.

Consume more fish, and include a small amount of oily fish

Fish is a great source of protein, and it also contains many vitamins and minerals.

You should aim to consume at least 2 portions of fish per week, which includes at least 1 portion of oily fish.

There are three options: canned, frozen, and fresh. However, remember that canned and smoked fish can have high salt content.

While most people should eat more fish, there are limits to certain types of fish.

Saturated fat

While you need to eat some fat, it is important to be aware of the type and amount of fat you are consuming.

There are two main types of fats: unsaturated and saturated. Saturated fats can raise cholesterol levels, increasing your chances of developing heart disease.

Men should not consume more than 30g of saturated fat per day. Women should consume no more than 20g of saturated fat per day.

Children younger than 11 years old should consume less saturated fat than adults. However, children below 5 years of age shouldn’t eat a low-fat diet.

Avoid saturated fat, and eat more unsaturated fats, such as vegetable oils, spreads, and oily fish, instead.

You can make your choice healthier by using a smaller amount of vegetable oil or olive oil or a reduced-fat spread in place of butter, lard, or ghee.

Choose lean meat cuts and trim any visible fat.

All fats are high in energy, so it is important to eat them in small quantities.

Consuming foods and drinks with high amounts of sugar can increase your risk of weight gain and tooth loss.

Sugary foods and drinks can be high in energy, measured in kilojoules and calories. This can lead to weight gain if they are consumed too often. Sugary foods and drinks can cause tooth decay, especially when eaten between meals.

Sugars that are not added to food or beverages or found in honey, syrups, unsweetened fruit juices, and smoothies, are called free sugars.

This is the type of sugar you should reduce, not the sugar in milk and fruit.

Gin Fizz

The classic Gin Fizz cocktail is light and refreshing, ideal for brunch or before dinner. The gin’s floral notes are a perfect match for the lemon. The egg white adds a smooth mouthfeel and balances the drink. To make the most fluffy drink, be careful when you separate the egg whites. Also, shake the drink vigorously for at least 30 seconds.

Long Island Iced Tea

The Long Island Iced Tea has four spirits and one liquor. It is not for the faint-hearted.

Gin-Campari Old Fashioned

This Old Fashioned variation is created by Dave Kwiatkowski from The Sugar House. He swaps whiskey for gin. Campari gives it a bitter taste and rosy color.

Hawksmoor Apple Martini

Adam Montgomerie is the bar manager at Hawksmoor, an English steakhouse in New York City. He has a smart, elevated take on the appletini. The Hawksmoor Apple Martini is the union of the sweet, nostalgic Appletini and the dry Martini from which the sweet-up drink is derived. This recipe uses a high-quality eau de-vie, a clear fruit brandy, and a splash of homemade malic acid. It gives the drink a crisp apple flavor.

Toby Cecchini, a cocktail savant, is known for inventing the Cosmopolitan. This drink was created while he was bartending at Odeon. He is now the owner of The Long Island Bar in Brooklyn and continues to create unique drinks that taste like instant classics.

New York Sour

The New York Sour cocktail has a perfect balance of fruity red wines and sweet bourbon. It is a classic cocktail for a reason. Large ice cubes can be used to chill the cocktail, without it becoming too sweet. They also look great in rock glasses. To get the perfect float, pour the wine slowly onto the spoon. For a thicker viscosity, you can add an egg white to your shaker if you feel adventurous.

Frozen Salted Espresso Martini

This frosty version is perfect for Espresso Martini fans. The brewed espresso is first frozen in an ice tray. Once the cubes have solidified, they are processed in a blender with vodka, coffee liqueur, and simple syrup until smooth. The martinis you get are balanced with vanilla and caramel notes. They are sweetened by syrup and vodka, while the espresso adds an earthy bitterness. Flaky sea salt adds a subtle finishing touch to the drink and balances out the espresso’s bitterness. Enjoy immediately after serving, but make sure to chill your glasses.
